Early in 1998, the staff at the Multicultural Centre began to encounter a number of internationally trained doctors seeking information as to how they could acquire a license to practice in Canada. Most had come to Canada unaware of the many barriers and financial burdens that they would face.
It became apparent that there was a growing need to organize services and resources for international medical professionals, newly immigrated to Canada. In 1999 the first Doctors’ Group was formed. This group was coordinated by Neera Mehta, an Employment Counsellor at K-W Multicultural Centre.
This became known at the K-W Multicultural Centre as the Doctors’ Project. The Doctors’ Group met weekly. They studied, shared information and resources and explored methods and strategies in order to advocate with stakeholders.
The K-W Multicultural Centre is the local regional affiliate of the Association of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (AIPSO). Through this community partnership the Centre provides organization, advocacy, and distributes information and resources for internationally trained doctors in the Region of Waterloo.

Become a member of the Local Chapter of (AIPSO) the Association of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario through the K-W Multicultural Centre. Add your voice to the growing coalition of International Medical Graduates. (Membership is subsidized.)
