K-W Multicultural Festival Mainstage Performer: Gerima and Friends

Gerima Harvey lives in a world where love reigns and where he hopes there is always an abundance of music lovers to collaborate with. He hears the beat of yonder drummers and possesses a unique gift of being able to gel with any art form and artist.

He has been channelling musical prowess since infancy. From plates, tin-cans and plastic containers, he now expresses his ideas and emotions through a variety of drums, other percussion instruments and vocals.

A dynamic soloist and a member of many musical relationships like Organic Groove Drummers, J Collective, Oshungo Drum & Dance, Alysha Brilla, Sammy Duke, and Baro Dununba, he’s accompanied and played with multiple artists and bands including Ekhaya, Errol Blackwood, Donné Roberts, Amadou Kienou, Gotta Lago, Alex Boye and Messenjah. From studio to stage, Gerima brings his musical genius and inspiration to everywhere that needs his magic.

His first CD, hosted by Saikou Saho of African Drums and Art Crafts, was launched in June 2015 thanks to Toronto’s Remax Lounge, Burning Spear guitarist Gillie Genesis, from Jamaica reggae artist Ossie Douglas, folk jazz artist Ben Roscoe, and West African & Diasporic Rhythms drumming group Baro Dununba. Gerima added a hot chili pepper solo to round out the show.
