The Waterloo Region Trauma Service Initiative is a community collaboration, focused on creating more inclusive, appropriate, and accessible trauma supports and services. It is co-led by 4 local organizations:

  • Carizon Family & Community Services
  • Family & Children's Services
  • Kitchener-Waterloo Multicultural Centre
  • Sanguen Health Centre

Over 60 organizations throughout the Waterloo Region are currently involved with this initiative, along with 10 community members. New members from within organizations and the community are welcome and encouraged to contribute.

The focus for the Trauma Informed Working Group is to educate and encourage support workers, practitioners and community members throughout the Waterloo Region to integrate a trauma-informed perspectives into the organizational and individual levels. The Initiative is made up of three working groups, focused on:

  • Trauma-Specific Treatment
  • Trauma-Informed Practice
  • Community Awareness

Members of the working groups include:

  • Therapists from local agencies
  • Private practitioners
  • Human services staff
  • Community members
  • Academics
  • Researchers
